Girija Goyal, PhD
Principal Scientist, Wyss Institute at Harvard University

Dr. Girija Goyal is a Principal Scientist in the Bioinspired Therapeutics and Diagnostics Platform at the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University. Girija grew up in India and moved to the US for doctoral studies at Harvard University and Dana Farber Cancer Institute. She has a Ph.D. in Immunology from Harvard Medical School where her research focused on the biology of an ongoing cancer vaccine trial that was modeled in mice and led to the identification of a repurposed adjuvant. Her dissertation research highlighted the hurdles in translating findings from mouse models to the clinic, which led her to join Dr. Donald Ingber’s laboratory at Harvard’s Wyss Institute. Her current research applies the Organ Chip technology in order to create entirely human, primary, Organ Chips for the study of the human immune system. At the Wyss Institute, Dr. Goyal currently leads and manages programs on infection and immunity in human organs on chips, such as studying Lyme Disease, clinical vaccine, and adjuvant candidates, and developing models of mucosal immunity with relevant microbiota.
