Dr Chase Beisel was awarded the 2016 Emerging Leader Award to explore the potential ability of CRISPR-Cas genome targeting to kill the bacteria that causes Lyme. His lab pursues research on using the Type 1 CRISPR-Cas system to cleave and degrade the bacterial genome. The approach has so far been tested successfully in E. coli, Salmonella enterica and Streptococcus thermophilus. He has received funding for his work in anti-microbials from the National Science Foundation and the Gates Foundation. Dr. Beisel received his BS in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State University and a PhD in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Biology from the California Institute of Technology.
Assistant Professor, Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering, North Carolina State University.
