About Bay Area Lyme Foundation
Bay Area Lyme Foundation is a national nonprofit organization providing philanthropic capital and research support to accelerate medical breakthroughs for Lyme disease. Lyme is one of the fastest growing infectious diseases in the country with ~500,000 new cases each year and yet Lyme research is dramatically underfunded. Our aim is to transform the research landscape and engage the private sector in order to produce reliable diagnostics and treatments that work.
The organization was founded in late 2011 by a group of ambitious entrepreneurs and community leaders from Silicon Valley, each fueled by the passion of having personally suffered or nursed a loved one through the debilitating disease. Alarmed by the lack of answers and public awareness about Lyme, the team saw an opportunity to mobilize the research community and engage the private sector with new approaches and collaborations.
See About Us for more about our approach.
